If you’ve sold or purchased a home over the past few years, chances are you’ve come across some of Nicola’s amazing work. With an extensive background in spatial and interior design, Nicola’s expertise is worth its weight in gold when it comes to presenting and really maximising the potential of your home for the market.

We visited Nicola in her beautiful Napier home to chat about her recent renovations, making the most of a smaller space and what inspires her.

Going from a larger, character home after a separation, Nicola moved into a smaller space with her two girls, which motivated her to transform this plain little house into a cosy and stylish home with an abundance of character and personality.
From stripping wallpaper, altering doorways, painting, new flooring, putting in a whole new kitchen, tiling, and lighting, this quaint little home really has a whole new lease of life with a youthful and cosy aesthetic.

"Space doesn't need to limit you, you just need to make the most of what you've got. I've enjoyed the process of turning this into a cosy little home but it's really a stepping stone to my next move - wherever that may be!"

The living space is light and bright, with a mix of contemporary pieces and one-of-a-kind treasures like the beautiful antique coffee table - a Madisons purchase from 10 years ago! Drawn to natural textures and rattan, but with a hint of whimsy, Nicola often finds herself incorporating subtle pinky hues into her space and loves to add little ceramics and objects that she has collected over the years.

A keen traveller, Nicola jumps at the chance for a little city escape, and is constantly inspired by some of the beautiful Airbnbs and boutique hotels around New Zealand. A recent favourite - The Ebb in Dunedin, architecturally stunning, and filled with beautiful art and design objects, a truly unique experience.

Nicola's favourite piece, object or part of the home:
The beautiful one-of-a-kind coffee table from Madisons is pretty special, it's a great size and has such beautiful character and also the little antique cabinet that I discovered in a little second hand shop.

Favourite things to do around Hawke's Bay:

I love to get out and about, often running around Ahuriri, or going for a swim.
As much as I love Hawke's Bay, escaping for a city getaway is great for a bit of inspiration!

Other inspiring designers:
Natalie Walton - Australian based, she has written some beautiful books that are great to refer to
Amber Lewis - Californian interior designer, Amber is an absolute master at layering eclectic and found pieces, along with natural elements to create beautiful spaces.
Kayu Studio - A must-do when visiting Mt Maunganui, a beautifully curated showroom

Describe your style:
Timeless, textural with a hint of whimsy.
Mixing the old with the new is key to adding personality and character. I'm often drawn to subtle pinky peach tones.
